You don't add -er when:

  • The sport name is more than one word (e.g. table tennis).

Life Skills

Entourage: The team behind the champion

Players often thank their team immediately after a victory, both publicly and again behind closed doors, and it’s commonplace to hear a player congratulate not only their opponent, but their opponent’s team who helped them get to that position.

A dedicated support team is now the status quo, especially among the top players who can afford to travel with a full-time staff.

In the year 2016, for example, Murray is joined by:

  • wife
  • parents
  • coach
  • assistant coach
  • hitting partner
  • fitness specialist
  • physio /chiropractor
  • mental coach
  • strength and conditioning coach
  • managing director
  • sponsor chief
  • publicist
  • nutritionist
  • bodyguard
  • ...

Some players have more than 40 people in their entourage.
